We are brothers

Saturday, March 23, shortly after noon, a white helicopter lands in the gardens of the papal summer residence of Castel Gandolfo. On board is Pope Francis, and waiting for him at the heliport is Pope emeritus Benedict XVI. Alighting from the helicopter Francis thanks the pilots, then seeing His predecessor, goes towards him to embrace him. This is a historic moment. It is the first meeting between the new Bishop of Rome and the Bishop Emeritus, a deeply moving encounter. Benedict XVI is wearing a white jacket that hides his white cassock, without the sash or cape that distinguishes him from Pope Francis. Together, they journey toward the apostolic palace. There Francis and Benedict reach the chapel.
